Recently, I have rediscovered my love for self-care activities that help to turn inwards and reflect. It’s so normal to feel lonely and a little stuck for inspiration, but there are lots of little things we can do to perk ourselves up. Honestly, I’m so grateful to have my beautiful girl Effie to keep me company too! Here are some of my self-discovery ideas that I’ve found super helpful over the years, during busy periods, or if you’re simply in need of a boost.
Taking time to self reflect is a practice that can help us process our thoughts and lead to greater self-awareness. The act of putting pen to paper can be so cathartic and allows us to get our chaotic thoughts and feelings out of our minds. Sometimes we just need to let that negativity go!
Where to begin?
Perhaps it’s taking 10 minutes in the morning to jot down some goals for the day or a few positive affirmations, and then coming back to your journal in the evening to note a couple of positive things that happened to you that day.

On the MIRROR WATER Instagram, we post questions to prompt our thoughts. Here are some of our faves to inspire you to get started in your MIRROR WATER journal too 🙂
I don’t know about you, but I’m somebody who finds the idea of meditating so daunting! Ur minds are often filled with a stream of thoughts, “what do I want for breakfast?”, “how is it August already?” etc etc, and I worry that I’m not doing it right. But honestly there’s no right way to meditate. It doesn’t have to mean sitting on the floor for two hours with calm music and candles. It can be taking a few short breaths and closing your eyes down while you’re on the bus or doing your morning skincare. Just disconnecting from the outside world and focusing on your breath can be so grounding.
Over on the MIRROR WATER Instagram, we were lucky enough to feature some guided meditations from the amazing Tamara (go give her a follow here). These are so great if you’re new to meditating or you just like a little guidance, I know that I find them super useful. I particularly loveee the Head/Heart meditation she did with us.

Similar to meditation, yoga is about turning inwards, but this time incorporating some movement. Moving your body in mindful ways, listening to what it needs, maybe you want to feel more open or it could be you need to let go of the daily stresses, just give yourself 20 minutes on a mat to decompress. There are so many great yogis on Youtube. Some of my faves are Cat Meffan, Yoga with Adriene, Move with Nicole, and activewear brands like Sweaty Betty often have guest yogis to practice with you too!
